Richard Griffitts
Griffits, Richard B., 73, retired Army Major General, of Trinity, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Anneliese. Services in Arlington National Cemetery with date to be announced.
General Griffitts was larger than life, I knew him when I was a green Pfc. in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. He was our Company Commander ((Capitan) “B” 2/8 Infantry 4th Infantry Division) at that time, and he was relentless about not only chasing down the bad guys, but with also keeping his men safe. Later in life I was able to see a much different side of him, at the reunions that “B Company held. He was so kind and when he told stories about us it was never about him, it was always about his men. We lost a truly great one and I will miss him at our gatherings. Ron Wulff 3rd Platoon “33 Track”
Rich was one of my very best friends in elementary school, high school and college, both of us graduating from Nampa High School and Idaho State University. He was my first college roommate. My wife and I were both extremely close to him for all of his life. We send to condolences to his wife, Anneliese and their boys, and to his entire Idaho family. He leaves a hole in our hearts and our lives and will be misses very much.
Richard was far more than a great big brother to me. He was also a terrific uncle to our daughters who both adored him and a great brother in law to my wife Linda. Over the years Rich included us in all his adventures which enriched our lives greatly. He hosted us on two trips to Europe (one including our daughters in 1998)which we likely would never has visited had it not been for him. We all cherished his visits to Idaho and can hardly bare the thought of not having him come visit again. We are all mourning his loss and are trying our best to keep the great memories we have of Rich in the forefront of our minds. He was a very special man and our hearts ache at his passing. Our hearts go out to Anneliese, Marlen, David & Carmen and Robert who all loved him so.

Anneliese and the entire Griffitts family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Richard was my Rich's cousin, but over the years I came to know and love Richard also. It didn't take long; Richard was your friend and telling his stories - always with a few good laughs. I am glad Rich and I got to see Richard and Anneliese one more time in Jan. 2011, before my Rich passed away. Anneliese, you are in my thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time. Richard, you will be greatly missed, rest in peace!
Ann and I extend our deepest sympathy to you for the loss of GEN Griffitts. He was a special mentor to me from Vietnam to Erlangen to Fort Meade. Please know that you do not share this loss alone. Your are in our thoughts and prayers at this challenging time. Ann & Andy Stovall
Dear Anneliese and the familly,we are more than a friend,as our dear Rich always said, " we are a family". We will never forget the good moments we spent together,He will always be in our heart and we will always be a familly.
IN LOVING MEMORY OF GENERAL RICHARD GRIFFITTS " I AM STANDING ON THE SEASHORE......A SHIP SPREADS HIS WHITE SAILS TO THE MORNING BREEZE AND STARTS FOR THE OCEAN. I STAND WATCHING HIM UNTIL HE FADES ON THE HORIZON AND SOMEONE SAYS "HE IS GONE". GONE WHERE ? THE LOSS IN IS ME, NOT IN HIM. JUST IN THAT MOMENT WHEN SOMEONE SAYS "HE IS GONE" THERE'S OTHERS WHO ARE WATCHING HIM COMING..... OTHER VOICES TAKE UP THE GLAD SHOUT 'HERE HE COMES!!' AND THAT IS DYING. (IT WAS AN HONOR TO KNOW HIM / SKIP KOLBE)
